The crash was caused by a thief who ran off with $1,000 (Rs 65,140) in tools. The thief first rammed an off-duty investigator's car out of the way as he escaped from Murdoch's Ranch & Home Supply Store in Fort Morgan, Colorado.

The Ford pick-up driving miscreant then drove onto the highway where state patrol vehicles gave chase. In a bid to escape, the thief went against the flow of traffic travelling at an insane speed of 130mph(209.2km/h).

Despite various attempts to stop him, the thief continued to drive through oncoming traffic before he smashed head-on into a Nissan. The horrific crash caused the suspect's pickup truck to flip over and catch fire, knocking him unconscious and trapped inside the burning vehicle.

The Nissan's front end was smashed, but the driver remained conscious and managed to get out of the wrecked car, but the passenger had to be cut out and airlifted to the hospital along with the suspect who caused the crash.
