Government To Fix The Accident Prone "Black Spots" On National Highways
The
government
has
asked
the
concerned
agencies
to
rectify
the
'black
spots'
on
National
Highways.
Based on fatality data collected from 2011, 2012, and 2013, a total of 726 spots were identified as road accident black spots on the National Highways.
"The road accident black spots are identified based on the number of fatalities, rectification of these spots will be taken up as a part of the highway development projects' " said Pon Radhakrishnan, the Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways.
"The ministry has issued guidelines to all the implementing agencies on investigation and rectification of these black spots," he added .
The Road and Highways Minister has sanctioned Rs. 11,000 crore to fix accident spots on national highways. In India, road accidents result in an annual loss of Rs. 55,000 crore to Rs. 60,000 crore.
