Goodyear Uneveils Spherical Tyre Concept For Autonomous Cars
The Goodyear Eagle-360 is a design concept tyre that would provide autonomous cars with ultimate maneuverability, and connectivity to increase safety.
The orientation of the tyre allows the car to move in all directions, contributing to safety for passengers, and coping with space limitations.
Embedded sensors in the tyre increase safety by communicating road conditions to the vehicle control system, while tyre monitoring technology regulate wear of the 360-degree tyre for an extended mileage.
The tyres would rely on a magnetic levitation system to suspend the car resulting in a smooth, quiet drive for the passenger.
The 3D printed tread mimics the patterns and behaves like a sponge, designed to soften when wet, to provide good aquaplaning resistance.
