7 kg Gold Seized From Mini Cooper Imported Via Carnet

7
kg
of
gold
hidden
in
the
petrol
tank
of
a
Mini
Cooper
car
imported
from
Dubai,
via
Kochi
Port.
The
car
was
imported
from
Dubai,
by
a
native
of
Mangalore.
The
importer
has
given
details
of
two
from
Kasargod,
Kerala,
as
the
persons
who
sent
the
car
in
his
name.
Customs seized 14 gold chains weighing 500 gm each, valued at 2 crore were concealed in the fuel tank. The car was imported from Dubai to Kochi, through Carnet De Passage Scheme.
Carnet de passage is a document that allows a person to cross international borders with a vehicle without paying import duties.
With the recovery of 7 kg of gold smuggled through a car imported under the Carnet De Passage scheme, the Customs officials have tightened the import regulations through Kochi Port.
