The Art Of Selling A Non Existent Car And Getting Caught — Hats Off To The Duo?
The used car market is a big business around the world, and this brings up fraudsters, who try to scam people off their money. The latest incident involves a person named Nomfundo Nyamakazi from Grahamstown, in the Eastern Cape.
The lady was cheated by a two people, named Vuyolwethu Nzulwana and Lindani Manqele, who stole the lady off her cash and are now facing charges.
The story starts off as the duo, Nzulwana and Manqele, who had a habit of clicking pictures of random cars parked on the street, and uploading them on OLX, claiming it was for sale. Nyamakazi, saw the ad for a 2010 model BMW and contacted the duo saying she was interested.
The duo claimed they were from Venter Motors, a reputed used car dealership in Westonaria. When Nyamakazi called them, a person answered the call and identified himself as 'Welcome', and after a small chat, she decided to fly to Johannesburg, and had also transferred the money.
On arrival, she went over to Venter Motors to collect the car, she was told that they had never received any money, and Nyamakazi was told that she had been cheated. Venter Motors also told her that they have been receiving a lot of calls from customers asking for their money back or for the car.
When Nyamakazi called Welcome, he called her a fool for paying for a car that she never even saw, and claimed that he had 'eaten' her money. An angry Nyamakazi filed a case, and the duo were traced and arrested for money laundering.
