Vehicles carrying construction material or demolition waste in Delhi will be penalized up to Rs 5,000.
Until now, the traffic authorities could penalise non-compliant vehicles up to Rs 2,000 under the Motor Vehicles Act. Now the fine has increased up to Rs 5,000.
The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) had last week written to traffic authorities and agreed to enforce the order. The money collected via fines will be spent in improving the environment.
As per National Green Tribunal orders, all the construction materials and debris shall be carried in vehicles that are fully covered.
