China Develops Chameleon Skin For Stealth Jets
oi-Dennis
By Dennis
Chinese researchers have developed a new aircraft skin that is the radio wave equivalent of chameleon skin. The skin makes planes even harder to see on radar by adapting to different radar frequencies and reacting to them.
In an article published this week in the Journal of Applied Physics, the scientists detailed a material less than 8mm thick which can protect stealth jets from detection by even Ultra-High Frequency (UHF) Radar waves. The material can tune itself to a range of detection frequencies, and protects against a large number of radar scans.
