Rare BMW M1 To Go Up For Sale In New York Auction
A very rare BMW M1 will be sold at RM Sotheby's "Driven by disruption" auction in New York on December 10. The M1 is expected to sell for anywhere between $800.000 and $1.000.000.
The M1 was the first ever car from BMW's legendary M division. The styling and chassis was an Italian Job. The styling was done by Giorgetto Giugiaro who was named the car designer of the century in 1999. The chassis was built by Gian Paolo Dallara whose other projects include the Lamborghini Miura and Countach.
The engine was 3.453cc straight six producing 277bhp. The M1 is the only BMW car which had it engine placed in the middle of the car itself. The power from the engine was sent to the rear wheels by a five-speed manual transmission.
The BMW M1 being sold at the New York auction is just one of 399 road-going examples of the M1 that were ever built and has never been sold into private ownership before. The arctic white M1 which has the chassis number 4301426 has only been driven for 628 kilometers.
