Autowale: Book Your Auto Rickshaw Through An App
Praveen Narayan Dusane, who used to earn INR 300 a day driving an auto now owns an apartment and can send his three children to school. Thanks to Autowale, Dusane just has to check his mobile phone for text messages to pick up passengers.
In a country like India, where almost every nook and cranny on the road is conjested with traffic, a few companies are using technology to connect auto rickshaws to customers. AutoRaja has a dial-an-auto service in Chennai and in Bangalore, mGaadi offers rickshaw bookings through their website and app.
Autowale uses a program to map out a potential route and increase customer pick ups. They are trying to make it easier for customers by offering auto rickshaws on demand. Customers can book an auto through an app, on the web or just call. Autowale in return, inform the rickshaw drivers through text messages as GPS and smart phones are too expensive for the drivers to own.

The first version of Autowale which was founded by college friends Janardan Prasad and Mukesh Jha flopped. In 2011, they replanned their model and started with 5 auto rickshaws and now slowly over time have a network of 850 drivers and help 100,000 passengers commute per year.
