Toyota, Union Ordered To Begin Production By Karnataka Government
The Karnataka Government has ordered the Toyota Kirloskar management and the striking Union members to end the deadlock and restore normalcy from today. The order to restore normalcy was given on Saturday after a meeting between the three bodies.
"The government of Karnataka, in order to maintain industrial peace and harmony, has issued an order asking the company and the union to restore normalcy in operations immediately," Toyota Kirloskar said in a statement.
The management had earlier removed the lockout, but had insisted that workers sign an agreement of good conduct before resuming work, which the latter had refused to do. As per the government order now, the management cannot demand the same from workers. At the same time, workers have to return to work unconditionally.
Meanwhile, the wage issue will be handled by the industrial disputes tribunal. "All relevant issues between the workers and the management have been referred for adjudication," Toyota's statement read.
The issue of suspended workers, on the other hand, will have to be resolved between the company and the union.
Toyota had till now continued production on a limited scale by employing supervisory staff and non-unionized workers on the production line.
