Volkswagen T-Roc For India Instead Of Taigun: Rumour
Volkswagen India showcased the Taigun at the Auto Expo earlier this year, which was an obvious indication that it would bring this compact SUV here to take on the Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport.
That could turn out not to be the case, however. In place of the Taigun we could see the T-Roc concept being launched in India.
The T-Roc, unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, is a two door concept with a detachable roof. The small SUV concept is powered by a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine that produces 182 horsepower and a peak torque of 380 Nm. This is an all-wheel drive compact SUV, equipped with 4Motion system, coupled to a dual clutch 7-speed transmission.

LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels are some of the other features of the VW T-Roc concept. The fact which matters most, however, is that the T-Roc is built on the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform.
This modern platform supports transverse mounted front engined and front wheel drive configuration and allows manufacturing flexibility, besides being lightweight (the T-Roc weights just 1,420 kg).
VW intends to introduce MQB in India as it will aid in cost savings through platform sharing, not just in the country, but in its manufacturing facilities across the world.
The Taigun, on the other hand, is based on the PQ25 platform, an outdated platform that's used by the Polo and Vento. In case the Taigun is launched it would mean VW would be forced to keep using the outdated platform for quite some time into the future even as its facilities in other countries would have moved on to MQB.
The launch of a new vehicle, hence, provides a perfect opportunity for VW to introduce the MQB platform here, something that's now been supported an Overdrive source.
VW T-Roc would spawn a four-door production compact SUV with front wheel and all-wheel drive, with the option of petrol and diesel engines. Tell us what you think about the T-Roc in the comments section below.
