Volkswagen Polo Stuffe Compact Sedan For India Confirmed

By Ganesh

Volkswagen is working on a new sub-4 metre compact sedan model specific to India. Known internally as the Polo Stuffe, the said compact sedan model will be based on the Polo's PQ25 platform.

Mahesh Kodumudi, Managing Director of VW India has said that the Polo Stuffe will be finalised soon. A launch is expected to happen sometime in 2016-17.

Naturally, Polo Stuffe would be placed between the Polo and Vento models, with shared powertrains. Considering the Vento is already a sedan born from the Polo, it would be interesting to see how the design of the Polo Stuffe will turn out to be.

If existing compact sedans are any indication, the Polo Stuffe will be yet another ugly hatchback that's been unnaturally fitted with a stubby boot.

The compact sedan apart, VW India will also be introducing its first compact SUV, which is likely going to be the Taigun, in the next couple of years.

Looking at something closer, the next in line for launch is the facelifted Polo hatchback that was revealed globally earlier this year. The 2014 Polo gets a slightly revised front fascia that brings a major change in the way the small car looks (in a good way).

After the launch of the 2014 Polo, which is likely to happen in July, the Vento will follow suit. However, the Vento will receive a much more significant update only in 2015.

VW and Skoda models will also be receiving the company's new 1.5-litre diesel engine, already powering the Vento. The new engine will replace the 1.6-litre diesel unit to benefit from excise cuts and also to improve fuel efficiency.

Including facelifted version and all new cars, VW plans to launch 7 new models by 2016-17.
