Volkswagen Group Sales Report: 2.40M Vehicles Sold In Q1
Volkswagen Group delivered 2.40 million vehicles globally during January-March 2014, which is an improvement of 5.8 percent over the 2.27 million units sold during the corresponding period last year. During March 2014 alone 929,500 cars belonging to Volkswagen Group were sold.
China continues to be the Group's single largest market with 880,700 out of 978,700 unit deliveries from the Asia-Pacific region coming from here. 958,600 units were delivered in Europe, 197,300 in North America, and 168,600 in South America.
Audi, Skoda and Seat, on the other hand, recorded the highest percentage increases in sales. Breaking the total number of deliveries brand wise, VW Passenger Cars lead the way with 1.48 million sold to customers worldwide between January and March this year.
Audi delivered 412,800 units and Porsche 38,700. Skoda grew by a significant 12.1 percent in the first three months of the year with sales of 247,200 units. Seat generated 93,400 unit sales.
Lastly, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles delivered 120,900 vehicles to customers in the first quarter.
"All in all, we are very satisfied with the way deliveries developed in the first three months", Group Board Member for Sales Christian Klingler said in Wolfsburg on Friday, and added: "The positive momentum in the Asia-Pacific region continued, with China remaining the Group's largest single market. Furthermore, there are signs of a return to modest growth on the markets in Western Europe. In terms of Group brands, Audi, ŠKODA and also SEAT recorded the highest percentage increases, with deliveries in some cases rising quite significantly."
