Toyota Vios To Launch In India, Testing Commences
Japanese automobile manufacturer, Toyota has begun testing a new sedan in India. This new vehicle looks like the Vios model and has been caught testing in Bangalore recently. The sedan is on offer in several Asian markets like Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Toyota is expected to launch its Vios sedan in India by 2015-end or early 2016. The Japanese manufacturer will price its vehicle competitively and is expected to heavily localise assembly. We believe this sedan will be priced between INR 7,00,000 to INR 10,00,000 ex-showroom.
Toyota Vios will sport both a petrol as well as a diesel engine under the hood. A 1.4-litre, four cylinder diesel mill will produce 67.04 horsepower, along with 170 Nm of peak torque. The sedan will also feature a 1.5-litre four cylinder petrol engine, which will generate 107.4 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque.
The Japanese manufacture will be launching its Vios sedan in a tough market. It will have to compete with established contenders like Honda CIty, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento. Toyota currently does not have a vehicle on offer in the C-Sedan segment.
Currently Toyota India offers the Etios Liva, Etios, Etios Cross, Corolla ALtis, Camry, Prius, Innova, Fortuner, Land Cruiser Prado and Land Cruiser. The Japanese manufacturers vehicles range from INR 5,00,000 and go up to INR 1,19,00,000 ex-showroom.
