Skoda Fabia Planning An Indian Comeback To Premium Hatchback Segment
Skoda Auto has not being doing particularly well in India with their products. They have introduced several products and even discontinued a few. The Fabia hatchback was one of their products that was discontinued due to poor sales.
Now the automobile manufacturer from Czechoslovakia is planning of re-introducing its premium hatchback for India. The success of Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Suzuki Swift and several other hatchback is forcing Skoda to bring its Fabia back to India.
In terms of engine specifications Skoda currently offers its Fabia internationally with four petrol and three diesel engines. The Czech based manufacturer will, however, offer Indians with a few engine options. It will share engines with its parent company Volkswagen.
Skoda showcased its new Fabia hatchback at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. It borrows several design cues from its Octavia sedan. They have reduced the roofline of this hatchback and made their hatchback wider in dimension over its predecessor.
Pricing will be key for the success or failure of Skoda's new Fabia in India. They will have to localise the hatchback heavily to achieve competitive pricing. Another key area, where the manufacturer could improve is the reduction of pricing for spare parts.
We would like to hear from our readers, what do you think about Skoda's new Fabia? Should it or should it not be introduced in India. Will the Fabia hatchback be priced aggressively in India and will it stack up against the automobile giants Suzuki, Hyundai and even Tata?
