Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy R Sets FWD Nurburgring Lap Record
Renault is once again the record holder for the fastest front wheel drive lap of the Nurburgring. Renault's 2011 record lap time of 8:07.97 was beaten by Seat earlier this year, with a time of 7:58.4, in a Leon Cupra.
Last month, a front wheel drive 2014 Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy R went around The Ring in 7:54.36, thus beating Seat by about 4 seconds. The record breaking Megane RS 275 Trophy R was driven by Renault Sport test driver Laurent Hurgon.
The video of the same has now been released by Renault.
Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy R is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine, with a 6-speed manual transmission and limited slip differential driving the front wheels. The engine delivers 275 horsepower and 359 Nm of torque, same as a Megane RS 275 Trophy minus the R.
Where this version of the hatchback gains or rather loses, is in terms of weight. The ‘R' is 100 kg lighter, thanks weight saving in the form of polycarbonate sports seats, a lithium-ion battery and lightweight 19-inch wheels, covered in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.
The Megane RS 275 Trophy R also features titanium Akrapovic exhaust, Ohlins dampers, lightweight braking system, with 350/28-diameter steel and aluminum discs.
Renault will only build 250 Megane RS 275 Trophy Rs and it will make its public debut at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 26.
