Nissan Evalia Extensive Facelift Confirmed In 2014 For India

By Ganesh

Launched in September 2012, the Nissan Evalia MPV, known internationally as the NV200, was expected to be just as popular in India as it is outside the country. Unfortunately for Nissan, Indian buyers have never managed to cosy up to the unconventional design of the Evalia.

The commercial van like design aside, the Evalia was also launched with a few unfortunate design choices. The butterfly style rear windows that could not be opened entirely, the missing mid-row AC vents, an open glove box and dull interior further aggravated the problem, which meant the Evalia sold in pitifully low numbers.

Nissan made an attempt to correct few of these mistakes in October when it launched a slightly refreshed Evalia which addressed the fixed windows, along with a few other things. But the Evalia story has still remained unchanged.

Going by the saying ‘third time's a charm', Nissan will have one more shot at the Evalia, company president Mr. Kenichiro Yomura has confirmed to Business Line. This time the company has said it will give the MPV a thorough refresh, though what these changes will be has not be made known. Nissan has only said that these changes have been implemented after extensive consultation with customers.

The newly redesigned Evalia will be launched towards the end of this year. Mechanically, the Evalia would likely remain unchanged as there have never been any complaints about 1.5-litre diesel engine, along with the 5-speed transmission, which provide a smooth city ride.

Apart from the refreshed Evalia Nissan will also launch the facelifted Sunny sedan towards the middle of the year and the second Datsun model, the GO+ compact MPV.
