Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 AMT launch In January 2015: Rumour
The Maruti Suzuki Alto is the best selling car in India, but sales of the car have dropped recently. Things will only get tougher for the Alto in the coming months due to the recently launched Datsun GO that has a relatively large 1.2-litre engine and the new Hyundai Eon with a 1.0-litre engine.
To give its best selling model a massive boost, Maruti is reportedly planning to a major makeover for the Alto K10. FT reports, citing its source, that an all new Alto K10 will be launched in January 2015.

The new Alto K10 will have an all new look that will be inspired by the Celerio. Even the interior will be revised to make it more modern and spacious, the newspaper's source has claimed.
The most significant update, however, will come in the form of the introduction of Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). The AMT made its debut with the Celerio this year and has proved to more popular than the company anticipated.
Over 50 percent of all Celerio hatchbacks sold are AMT variants. There is not secret behind its success. What's made its popular among budget car buyers is the fact that it offers the convenience of an automatic transmission with the mileage of a manual variant.
If the Celerio is any indication, the new Alto K10 AMT should become an overnight hit, with skyrocketing sales.
At present waiting periods for the Celerio AMT is as high as 6 months, but by the time AMT makes its appearance in the the Alto by January and even in the Swift and Wagon R models later, production of AMT would be streamlined.
Magneti Marelli, the company that makes AMT, will shift production of the AMT to India next year from Italy, which will not only bring down the cost, but will also increase production.
The new Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 will continue to be powered by the existing 68 horsepower, 90 Nm torque petrol engine. Maruti is likely to improve fuel economy from the current 20.92 kpl though.
Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is priced at INR 2.37 lakh and the Alto K10 comes for INR 3.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
