Mahindra Upgrading XUV 500 After Customer Feedback

The Mahindra XUV 500 is one of the hottest selling Indian SUVs around. Launched in August 2011, the XUV 500 has been a great sales success with bookings far exceeding Mahindra's expectations. It seems the initial euphoria around the XUV 500 is coming down after more than one year of its launch. Reports say Mahindra is now working on upgrading the XUV and launch it softly in the next couple of months.

You might be wondering why Mahindra would upgrade a car that is doing so well? Well the answer lies in the fact that the XUV 500 is not a car without its niggles. Mahindra has received quite a bit of customer feedback in the past one year and there have been some issues too. Mahindra wants to ensure its flagship SUV does not loose customer satisfaction and has hence decided to upgrade the XUV 500.

We shall have a closer look at the issues and niggles reported by XUV 500 users and will also know what Mahindra is planning to do with the upgraded XUV 500.

Noisy and Spongy Brakes

Noisy and Spongy Brakes

Drivespark's editor Jobo Kuruvilla On XUV 500's Brakes: "The brakes for sure were all over the place and we bounced over a few road humps. Honestly, the brake feel is very touchy at low speeds; however even with the pedal stroke being long the braking system is not powerful. The disks are noisy and squeal at every given opportunity."

Some of the major issues reported in the Mahindra XUV 500 were about the brakes. So Mahindra has decided to add a brand new braking package. There is no clarity on what exactly the braking package will include.

Infotainment system

Infotainment system

The XUV 500's infotainment system sounded impressive during the car's launch. But users faced some niggling issues, particularly in the top end W8 variant. Owners had reported issues such as the GPS system not working, voice command issues, malfunctioning parking sensor and iPod and Bluetooth connectivity issues.

Mahindra is said to be bring in a new infotainment system in the upgraded XUV 500. We were impressed by the voice command system in the Xylo's E9 and we expect a similar if not better system in place in the new XUV 500.

Smaller Improvements

Smaller Improvements

Mahindra is said to be also working on smaller improvements to the XUV 500. There has been feedback about the XUV's interior colours being unimpressive. Will Mahindra change them?

Other Notable Issues

Other Notable Issues

XUV Owners have posted about certain issues in forums. Some of the most notable issues we noticed were about the hard clutch, central locking system not working properly, ABS light turning on automatically and cruise control not working when needed.

Considering the changes are just upgrades and not new features it is highly unlikely that Mahindra will increase the price of the upgraded XUV 500. IF you are planning to buy the XUV 500, you can as well wait until February/March to get an improved version.
