You see, mostly it is Lamborghini's rival Ferrari whose rare classics go for tens of millions of dollars. So, when a collector recently paid $1.2 million for a Lamborghini Countach, it is considered a big deal. It also means that Countach has finally come of age.

This particular Countach was auctioned at the Bonhams Auction, held at the 2014 Greenwich Concours d'Elegance.
The model was a 1975 Lamborghini Countach LP400 Periscopica.
The "Periscopica" name was given to a limited 150 units that were made between 1974 and 1977.
These models came with a specially adopted "Periscopica" rear view mirror, which compensated for the Countach's classic problem of poor visibility towards the rear.
This particular car had done just 16,500 km on the odometer. This, and the fact that this was a rare 1 in 150 model, contributed towards raising the value up to $1.2 million.
This 1975 Lamborghini Countach LP400 Periscopica wears a Blu Tahiti exterior body colour and a deeply tanned leather interior. For its age, the car is in particularly pristine condition, further adding to its value.
The car was first sold to a gentleman in Zurich, Switzerland and later moved to the U.S. This is the first time the car is changing hands.
The last time a Countach Periscopica model was auctioned was last year, also at the Bonhams auction. It had then fetched $836,000. Just about four years back in 2010 a 1975 Countach Periscopo had only fetched $336,030, which tells us how fast the value of the Countach has appreciated.
1975 Lamborghini Countach LP400 Periscopica is powered by a 4.0-litre DOHC V10 engine, with six Weber carburettors, delivering 375 HP at 8000 rpm. A 5-speed manual transmission is fitted to the engine. The car also features 4-wheel independent suspension.
