BMW 7 Series ActiveHybrid L India Launch In June
The German luxury car makers, namely Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have lately been very active in India, with a slew of new launches in recent months, with more to come in the coming days.
Strangely, however, none of them have found it ideal to launch a hybrid vehicle. But that could soon change with the launch of the BMW 7 Series ActivaHybrid L in June, as per a report on Motoring. If indeed this is true, i would be India's first luxury hybrid sedan ever.
The BMW 7 Series ActiveHybrid L is not a full fledged hybrid. As in, it does not offer pure electric driving mode. Instead, a 20 horsepower electric motor, fed by a 120-volt lithium-ion battery, aids the petrol engine, thus helping save fuel and reducing emission.
The petrol engine powering the 7 Series ActiveHybrid L is a 4.4-litre, TwinPower Turbo, direct injection V8 unit with a power output of 460 bhp at 5500-6000 rpm and a torque figure 706 Nm between 2000-4500 rpm. Combined power output is thus 460 bhp.
The ActiveHybrid L is quite quick from 0-100 kph, taking just just 4.9 seconds, before reaching an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h
More importantly, the ActiveHybrid system helps the large sedan achieve a fuel economy of 11 kpl in European cycle and CO2 emission of 219 g/km.
Expected to be priced at about INR 1.5 crore, the BMW 7 Series ActiveHybrid L is likely to be placed right below the flagship 760 Li that costs INR 1.78 crore before taxes. Even if not many units of BMW's hybrid 7 Series are sold, it will help make a brand impact.
