Tuners have always tried make cars go faster, quicker. Some around circuits, some around oval tracks, some on rally stages, and some on the drag strip. While the others are thrilling and quick, none come close to the outright acceleration and speed that drag strip tuners have a go at.

The Nissan GT-R is a quick car in its stock form, and its launch control system is said to be the quickest to get off the line. But it seems like, for some tuners, the stock GT-R is just not fast enough. This week, one such record was set by Extreme Turbo Systems, making their GT-R the fastest (Yet!).

Pikes Peak is known as the best hill-climb rally in the world, but a little lesser known is Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack. The record for the quickest GT-R in the half-mile was set at this event last week, twice, by the same car.

The car on its first day's run did 252mph (405km/h) in the half-mile (800 metres), breaking the world record for the quickest GT-R in that distance. The Extreme Turbo Systems teams, though happy with the new record, wanted more and sent the car out for another run. This time around, the driver managed a good soft-launch without much spinning of the wheels and ended the quarter mile with 255mph (410km/h).

Information about what modifications were done to the V6 under the hood is obviously very secretive, but Extreme Turbo Systems have disclosed the power output of the car. It is a whopping 3,000bhp. The amount of work which has gone into the engine can be gauged from the fact that the same engine in stock form produces 591bhp.

DriveSpark Thinks!
The previous world record-holder for the world's quickest Nissan GT-R had managed a speed of 255.2mph (410km/h) over a mile (1.6 kilometres). This one managed to do it in half the distance, so it seems like this record would stay for a long time. But with the unending quest for speed, would it?
