Will Kia Bring The Stonic SUV To India?
Kia has unveiled its new compact SUV, the Stonic. As the automaker is set to enter India, the compact SUV might be Kia's first launch.
South Korean automaker Kia has unveiled its new Stonic SUV. Kia also plans to enter India and the first product from the automaker could be the compact SUV.
Kia has already announced that it will set up its manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh next year. Kia will kick start its India operations with a compact sedan and compact SUV.
Kia is a sister brand of Hyundai and both the firms share a lot of common components and platforms between them The Stonic is based on the i20 platform. Kia has also hinted that its India operations with the separate factory, sales and service and marketing strategies.
But Kia is keen to utilise the Hyundai’s local supplier base in India, which manufactures a lot of components for the i20 and Verna. So, manufacturing Stonic with locally sourced parts should not be a problem.
The Kia Stonic is a compact SUV which fits in the Indian market's ever-growing segment. Currently, the Stonic is 4.1-metres in length, if the automaker chops the overhangs it will be under 4-metre SUV.
The international-spec Stonic will draw power from a 1-litre, and 1.2-litre petrol engine and the diesel variant will be equipped with a 1.4-litre and 1.6-li9tre oil burner. Both manual and automatic gearbox will be offered.

If Kia launches the Stonic SUV in India, the battle of the compact SUV will be fierce. The Stonic will be a fitting rival to the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. Kia is likely to bring the Stonic to India as the compact SUV segment is rapidly growing in the country.
