Volvo V90 Cross Country India Launch Date Revealed; Prices To Be Aggressive Post GST
The new Volvo V90 Cross Country is an estate model of the S90 sedan of with better ground clearance and an all-wheel-drive system (AWD).
Volvo India has announced that the V90 Cross Country will be launched in India on July 12, 2017. The V90 Cross Country is the estate or the station wagon of the S90 sedan of the Swedish premium carmaker.
However, considering that the body style of estate or the station wagon not being well accepted in India, Volvo will woo customers with a slightly different derivative of the V90 Cross Country.
Volvo will offer the V90 Cross Country in crossover body style with higher ground clearance. This will provide the impeccable practicality of an estate, the luxury of a sedan and the ground clearance of an SUV.
Since the V90 is based on the S90 sedan, it will carry forward a host of equipment from the latter including the bold and minimalist design language. The pricing, too, will sit between the S90 sedan and the XC90 SUV.
Up front, the V90 Cross Country boasts of the Thor's Hammer LED headlamps with DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps), vertically positioned LED tail lamps, redesigned bumpers with a skid plate, black plastic cladding along with brushed aluminium finished roof rails.
The estate Volvo will ride on 20-inch alloy wheels and will have a massive boot capacity of 590 litres which can be further increased by 1526 litres.
Inside the cabin, the V90 Cross Country, the car will feature Bowers & Wilkins audio system with a Sensus touchscreen display, leather seat upholstery, dual-tone colour theme in tan brown and black.
Other convenience and comfort features include climate control, cruise control, rain sensing wipers and parking aids. Among the safety features, the V90 Cross Country will consist of multiple airbags with a cut-off switch for passenger airbag, Emergency Brake Assist (EBS), Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS) and hill start assist.
Powering the Volvo V90 Cross Country is a 2.0-litre D5 diesel mill that will churn out 235bhp and will be mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, which powers the S90 sedan as well, but tuned to offer better off-road capabilities.
The V90 Cross Country will also receive four driving modes, Eco, Comfort, Dynamic and Rough Road as well as an all-wheel-drive system for off-road capabilities.
Volvo will bring the V90 Cross Country via the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route, while prices are expected to hover around Rs 70 to Rs 75 lakh ex-showroom. With GST implemented, the V90 Cross Country could be cheaper.

While India has not embraced the estate or the station wagon body style, Volvo's tank like built qualities along with its features, the V90 Cross Country should have takers in the Indian automobile market.
