Volkswagen ID Crozz Debuts At Auto Shanghai
Volkswagen's electric assault continues with the ID Crozz; part of a strategy pointed at making VW up to one million electric car sales globally by 2025.
Volkswagen has debuted its first electric crossover - the I.D. Crozz - with four-door coupe styling and SUV utility.
Following the I.D. concept revealed at the 2016 Paris Motor Show and the I.D. Buzz in Detroit this year, the I.D. Crozz is the third member of VW's expanding I.D. family. The ID Crozz boasts of a 311-mile (500km) range, unique design and new interior concept.
All three ID Concepts are built on the same modular electric platform, MEB, that will underpin VW's future generation EVs.
Since the chassis are similar, the specifications are close as well. Electric motors on each axle give both all-wheel drive and a strong output of 300bhp.
The look isn't that same from the original ID, though it's taller because of its crossover image. Also, the ID Crozz is smaller and lower than a Tiguan.
The VW ID Crozz is powered by an 83-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that the German company says it can deliver a range of 311 miles (500km). A quick charger enables 150-kilowatt charging capacity which allows the battery to be charged to 80 percent in around 30 minutes.
As for the cabin, that compact powertrain packaging means plenty of space for sitting. The touchscreen infotainment system positioned near the wheel.
VW insists that the ID Crozz will enter production in 2020, the same year the company hopes to launch the regular ID.
