Volkswagen Group Is The World’s Largest Automaker In 2016

German manufacturer Volkswagen has regained the title of the World's largest carmaker for the year 2016. The company achieved this feat despite the emissions-cheating scandal in the U.S. The manufacturer sold 10.3 million cars worldwide last year.
According to the sales report, Volkswagen delivered 10.31 million cars in 2016, while its main rival Toyota sold 10.17 cars and a total production figure of 10.21 million cars. It is expected that General Motors will claim the third place in terms of sales.
The American manufacturer has not released any report of its sales figures, but, it is estimated that the company has sold 9.5 million cars. The Volkswagen Group has witnessed a growth of almost 3.8 percent in 2016 when compared to the year-ago-period.

The sales figures include the brands under the VW group which are Audi, Porsche and Skoda. The automaker clocked sales of 4.3 million in the Asia-Pacific region, with China accounting almost 2.9 million and surged 12.2 percent growth.
In its home market in Germany, the VW group suffered a sales decline of 7.2 percent, while as a whole, in the European market, the firm sold 4.2 million vehicles.
Despite the dieselgate scandal, Volkswagen group recorded 0.8 percent increase of growth in North America. The group sold 9,39,100 vehicles in the region, while in South America, the manufacturer managed to sell only 4,12,300 units, which is 25 percent down on sales compared to the year before.
