Volkswagen employees in the company's Slovak factory have called for a strike, demanding higher wage rise. The union expects a majority of its employees to participate, resulting in a production halt, officials were quoted saying.

Volkswagen's Slovak plant officials said that the employee union is asking for a wage hike of 16 percent, which is unacceptable. Also, the Union said in a statement that the strike would be unlimited.

The company has offered a base pay rise of 4.3 percent, along with 350 euros and other bonuses. Volkswagen is in trouble after the Diesel Gate Scandal and is subjected to pay billions to customers and to settle court fines.
