Toyota Set To Get Racy Again — 'Three Brothers' Sports Car Lineup Set to Return
Toyota is set to return in a big way to the performance car market which will be based around the three brothers
Japanese carmaker Toyota is set to push back into the performance car market in a big way with a new lineup of sports cars that will echo the company's sports car glory days in the 1990s.
Speaking to Evo, Toyota engineer and Gazoo Racing chief Tetsuya Tada stated that at the heart of its new sports car range will be the 'Three Brothers' which in the 90s was the name given to the trio of the Supra, Celica and the MR2.
With a new Supra, co-developed with BMW on the way and the GT86 seemingly occupying the position held by multiple versions of the Celica, Tetsuya san's words hint that a successor to the MR2 is on its way considering the fact he wants the new 'three brothers' in production together as soon as possible.
Evo goes on to speculate that the reborn MR2 might retain its mid-engined layout. The British magazine also stated that the new cars could also feature hybrid tech as Toyota seeks to implement what it learnt in LMP1 racing to its road cars.
Whatever the case may be, Toyota's return to the sports car scene is something every sports car fan, tuner and video game geek is looking forward to especially if the new Supra and MR2 live up to the legacies of the cars that bore the name before.
