Toyota's India Plans Revealed
Japanese automaker Toyota has stated that the company will not be launching new products in India this year. Toyota confirmed that the Vios will not be introduced in India this year.
The Indian wing of the Japanese car maker Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has confirmed that the company will not be launching any new products in India this year.
Toyota will be focussing on understanding and implementing GST within the firm and its dealerships. The company will also evaluate the shift from BS-IV to BS-VI compliant vehicles even before the deadline.
Toyota has also put an end to the rumour of launching the Vios in India this year. The company has sold over 1 million vehicles in India. Toyota Innova alone accounted for 6 lakh units.
Senior Vice-President and Director, Sales and Marketing, TKM, N. Raja said, "India is getting ready for hybrids and electric vehicles at a slow pace; at the moment, we don't plan to be aggressive and flood the market with new products, that is our next medium term goal. We will come with new products later, nothing this year."
Toyota launched the petrol variants of the Innova Crysta and Fortuner post the diesel ban in the capital city of the country. But the petrol versions accounted only 5 percent of overall sales. It was an additional investment for the company.
The Japanese automaker is also waiting for the clarity of the BS-IV norms and its implementation. It is not yet clear whether the sales of BS-IV vehicles will be banned from April 1, 2020. The automobile industry needs the fuel in advance for testing the BS-VI engines.
Toyota Vios was expected to be launched in India this year. The car was also spotted testing on Indian roads. But Toyota has made it black and white about its plans in India.
