Toyota Plans To Develop The Most Fuel Efficient And Safest Small Car In India
Reportedly, the model will be jointly developed by the new brand which Toyota and Daihatsu are working on, named 'Emerging-market Compact Car Company.'
As we reported, Toyota is planning to bring the Daihatsu brand to India, to bring entry-level affordable cars. The Indian subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation is also planning to introduce the most fuel efficient, safest and best value for money small car in India.
The new model will take on the products from the market leaders in the segment, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor India. The car is expected to arrive in the Indian market in 2020 after the BS-VI regulations are implemented.
Reportedly, the model will be jointly developed by the new brand which Toyota and Daihatsu are working on, named 'Emerging-market Compact Car Company.'
The joint-venture of both the manufacturers will help to develop the new small car with Daihatsu's low-cost technology and high-quality products for emerging markets like India. Along with this new model, Toyota is also aiming to bring Yaris hatchback and Vios c-segment sedan models to India.
Akito Tachibana, MD of Toyota Kirloskar told ET Auto, "The most favourable story for us is that cars developed by Daihatsu will be made for the local market and at an affordable price. We will begin research to assess customer expectations in each market to define the concept of a vehicle before any development."
Tachibana has instructed to his development team that the new small car should be the safest and it should have a pure hybrid solution. He didn't reveal much about this model and also declined to comment on future product plans.
Toyota India didn't manage to capitalise on the small car segment in India with the Etios sedan and Etios Liva hatchback. But the manufacturer will be utilising the collaboration with Daihatsu to launch new products in the small budget car segment.
