Tesla has been making headlines of late, and this only makes a person wonder when will Tesla officially set foot in India? Well, Elon Musk, the big boss of Tesla has tweeted out in reply to the question saying 'hopefully this summer'.
Just before the Model 3 was introduced, Tesla had plans to enter India with the car, but there seems to be a delay. Going by Musk's tweet, we ‘could' expect the carmaker to launch the Model 3 in India during the second half of this year, since Musk has said ‘hopefully'.
Elon Musk had earlier said that Tesla has plans to set up a pan India supercharger network, showing how serious Tesla is about entering India.
Although India is a big market for automobiles, electric cars have a long road ahead. Mahindra is the only manufacturer who sells electric cars in India — the e2O and the Verito. Hybrid cars on the other hand, have seen a drastic development of late.
The government too, is quite serious about electric cars and has come up with the FAME initiative. India has a lot of work in terms of setting up charging stations and improving infrastructure.
Speaking about the Model 3, which is aimed to be sold in India, the car at the moment costs Rs 23 lakh (approximately). But given the fact that the entry-level sedan from Tesla will be brought to India as CBUs, the cost would be much more than what an average individual can afford.
Speaking of hybrid cars, Honda has launched the Accord Hybrid in India, which is a step towards curbing air pollution. The car is pictured in the gallery below.
