Tesla Semi-Truck Unveil Confirmed For September; Pickup Truck On The Way As Well

Tesla's foray into heavy-duty trucks has been expected for almost a year after Musk revealed the second part of his 'master plan' for Tesla in July last year.

In his blog post on Tesla in July 2016, Musk outlined his plans for semi-trucks stating, "In addition to consumer vehicles, there are two other types of electric vehicle needed: heavy-duty trucks and high passenger-density urban transport. Both are in the early stages of development at Tesla and should be ready for unveiling next year. We believe the Tesla Semi will deliver a substantial reduction in the cost of cargo transport while increasing safety and making it really fun to operate."

Musk congratulated the team behind the semi-truck's development claiming that the new vehicle was "seriously next-level." Tesla's semi-truck program is headed by the company's Vice President of Vehicle Programs, Jerome Guillen, who before joining Tesla led the development of the Daimler Cascadia truck.

Musk also confirmed that Tesla's pickup truck would be unveiled in the coming 18-24 months which sets the unveil date for the highly anticipated model between October 2017 and April 2018.

Musk also confirmed that Tesla's update to its first ever car, the Roadster would be available in convertible form when it enters production.
