Tesla Model S And X Ditch Speed For Better Range With New 100D Variants
Tesla has unveiled new 100D variants for both the Model S and X which extend the range of both cars.
American electric carmaker Tesla has revealed the 100D variants of the Model S and X. The new Model S And Model X variants drop the P moniker attached to mind-bending performance variants for an increased electric range.
The new Model S & Model X 100D variants use the same 100kWh battery pack as their performance focused siblings. The Tesla Model S 100D can still sprint from 0-60mph(96.5km/h) in 4.2 seconds which pales in comparison to the Model S P100D sprint time of just 2.4 seconds.
However, the new 100D has an EPA estimated range of 335 miles (539 kilometres) compared to P100D's range of 315 miles (507 kilometres). This gives the Model S 100D the record for the longest official range for any production EV in the world.
The Tesla Model X 100D on the other hand has an EPA estimated range of 295 miles (474.7km) which is six miles (9.65km) more than the P100D variant which has a range of 289 miles (465km).
Interestingly, the new Model X undercuts its performance sibling's price by $37,000 (Rs 25.19 lakh) and is priced at $99,700. The Model S increases the savings to $42,000 (Rs 28.59 lakh) and is priced at $93,700.
However both new models are $3,000 (Rs 2.04 lakh) more expensive than their 90D siblings that are still being offered by Tesla.
