Tesla Model 3 launched. Electric carmaker Tesla launched its most affordable electric car Model 3 with a price tag of $35,000 (Rs 22.45 lakh).
The Tesla says the Model 3 is a smaller, simpler and a more affordable electric car. The company built the Model 3 to be the world's first mass-market electric vehicle to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.
Tesla Model 3 Electric Motor Specifications
While the Tesla Model 3 fitted with the standard battery with a range of 220 miles (355km), there is a longer range for $44,000 (Rs 28.22 lakh) which can travel up to 310 miles (500km).
The Tesla Model 3 with the standard battery can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds with a top speed of 210km/h. The Model 3 ups the ante with a range of 310 miles can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 225km/h.
Tesla Model 3 Dimensions & Technical Details
The Tesla Model 3 measures 4,694mm in length, 1,849mm wide and it's 1,443mm tall and has a long wheelbase of 2,875mm and weighs 1,610kg. The Model 3 rival BMW 3 Series is lighter weighing 1,475kg considering the batteries the Tesla needs to haul about.
All Tesla Model 3s is a rear-wheel drive from launch, but a 4x4 dual-motor version is said to be in the works. Also, there's a variable, speed sensitive power steering set-up, and the suspension system employs double wishbones at the front with an independent multi-link arrangement at the rear end.
Tesla Model 3 Specifications & Features
All Model 3s will come with a basic specification that includes 18" alloy wheels, the beautiful 15.4" infotainment screen, dual-zone climate control, wi-fi internet connectivity, keyless entry via your smartphone or a credit card-style key, voice activated controls and sensors needed to enable autonomous driving.
The specification can be upgraded with a $5,000 (Rs 3.20 lakh) Premium pack which delivers materials in the cabin with a wood-veneered dash, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats, a 12-speaker stereo upgrade, heated rear seats, and two inductive phone chargers.
Tesla's Autopilot self-driving technology depends on the local laws in your country, but Elon Musk says that every car has the hardware to drive itself where laws allow, if not the software.
This hardware includes eight cameras, 12 ultrasonic sonar sensors and forward radar as well as the processing power to use all the data. However, the software comes at a cost with the Enhanced Autopilot package costing an extra $5,000 and the Full Self-Driving Capability option requiring an additional $3,000 on top of that.
Tesla Model 3 Design
The Tesla Model 3 receives a conventional hatchback body style retaining the sleek sloping roofline Teslas are known for. The Model 3 offers two boots, front and rear, and it does come with a front grille except for a small scoop at the bottom edge of the bumper.
Inside the cabin, Tesla's approach is minimalistic and the Model 3 is simple in its design. Musk explained that the design team "aim for a very simple clean design because in the future the cars will be increasingly autonomous. You won't need to look at an instrument panel all that often, you'll be able to do what you want."
Speed and gear selection are displayed in the upper corner of the infotainment system, with a strip of climate controls at the bottom. The rest of the screen is split between the map display and stereo controls.
