Tesla Beats Detroit Giants To Be Crowned Top Ranked American Automotive Brand

Tesla crowned as the highest ranking American auto giant — beats GM, Ford, and Fiat Chrysler.

Tesla, which is one of the leading all-electric auto giants, beat the U.S. carmakers - GM, Ford, and Fiat Chrysler to become the highest ranked American brand.

This was according to the Consumer Reports' annual report card of which companies make the best cars, and Tesla was ranked as the highest American auto brand.

The label is important because of Tesla's size compared to other U.S. automakers like Ford Motor and General Motors. Moreover, Tesla earned the position based on just two electric models - Model S sedan and Model X SUV.

For instance, GM's Chevrolet brand has 20 models which delivered 164,095 vehicles in the U.S. in February. This result is according to sales results released Wednesday. While, on the other hand, Tesla delivered 76,230 vehicles globally in the entire 2016.

Now, the challenge for Tesla is to maintain its ranking. This will be based on the reliability, safety, road tests and owner satisfaction - once it adds the Model 3 to its portfolio.

The Model 3 carries a price tag of $35,000 (INR 23,35,784) and is meant to be a mass production car. The production of the car is expected to begin in the second half of 2017.

However, Tesla, Buick, Cadillac, Chrysler, Ford, Lincoln, and Jeep all fell behind German automakers such as - Audi, BMW, and Porsche. The German companies took the top spots on the 2017 Brand Report Card from Consumer Reports.

Audi received the highest overall brand score in Consumer Reports' annual indicator of the best cars for the second year in a row. While, on the other hand, Porsche, BMW, Lexus, and Subaru rounded out the top five.
