Indian auto giant Tata Motors is soon going to launch the Tiago AMT in the country. The AMT version of Tata's small hatchback is one of the much-awaited cars in the Indian market. Several reports have emerged on the internet revealing that the AMT gearbox will be made available on both the petrol and diesel engine options.
Apart from the AMT gearbox, there will be no change to the styling and design in the new avatar. The new version is likely to be offered in the petrol variants initially. The XT and XM variants of the Tiago will also get the new automated gearbox.
When it hits the Indian market, the Tiago AMT will compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT, Renault Kwid 1.0 AMT and Hyundai Grand i10 AT. The expected fuel economy of the new version is 25km/l.
Powering the Tiago is a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that delivers 84bhp of power and 114Nm of torque, and a 1.03-litre diesel motor that produces 69bhp of power and 140Nm of peak torque.
Tata Motors is also geared up for the launch of Tiago-based Kite 5 sedan and Nexon sub-compact SUV. Both the models were showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The new AMT gearbox could also make its way into these two models as well.
