Tata Motors Teases Nexon And Reveals Engine Details

Ahead of its impending launch, Tata Motors has teased the Nexon compact SUV and released the first set of details which is set to be launched in a couple of months.

The teaser image of the new Tata Nexon SUV reveals a more coupe-like profile and design details based on Tata's stylish Impact design philosophy. The Nexon receives dual-tone touches on its exterior and will come with similar interior quality much like its Tiago and the Tigor compact sedan.

Powering the production model of the Tata Nexon is a 1.2-litre (1,198cc) three-cylinder Revotron turbocharged petrol engine producing 108.5bhp at 5,000rpm and 170Nm of torque at 2,000-4,000rpm.

There is also the diesel unit, which is a 1.5-litre (1,496cc) four-cylinder Revotorq diesel mill which also develops 108.5bhp but at a lower 3,750rpm and delivers a useful 260Nm of torque at 1,500-2,750rpm.

Both the powertrains will come with three driving modes: Eco, City and Sport. As per Tata Motors, the sole gearbox on offer will be a TA6300 six-speed manual unit.

Tata Motors states that powertrains were developed in house at Tata's Pune facility along with inputs from suppliers like AVL, Bosch, Mahale and Honeywell.

While the petrol Revotron will be produced at its Sanand facility, the diesel Revotorq will be manufactured at the Ranjangaon plant.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said, "To introduce this all new SUV into the market, we are not leaving any stone unturned. We are once again introducing a product with an exciting package for our customers."

Both these engines have been designed and developed post extensive feedback from auto enthusiasts, expert drivers, followed by extensive testing across India, on different terrains. We are confident that this new family of engines will further help us build our brand and deliver a memorable experience on-road."

Once launched in India, the Tata Nexon will rival the likes of best-selling Maruti Brezza and the popular Ford EcoSport. With the competition in the Indian market, we expect Tata Motors to price the Nexon aggressively in the range of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh.

Tata Motors has been on the overdrive with success of its Tiago and to some extent with the Hexa and Tigor, thanks to its Impact Design Philosophy, features and aggressive pricing. But with the Nexon, it has take-on the might of Maruti Brezza in the Indian market. That said, the Tata Nexon could be a disruptive model in the compact SUV segment in India.
