The global automotive industry is busy developing the autonomous technology, self-driving vehicles are said to be the future of transportation.
If developing the self-driving vehicles is a challenge then making them work on the Indian roads is a much bigger hurdle for the automobile manufacturers.
But finally, a company has come forward to test the autonomous vehicle in India. According to reports from Business Standard newspaper, Tata Elxsi is seeking permission from Bengaluru authorities to test autonomous car.
Although, Tata Elxsi will not build a driverless car from scratch, but it has repurposed two sedans including one car manufactured by Tata Motors.
The sedans are equipped with a wide range of sensors and cameras, the cars have been already tested in the outskirts of Bengaluru.
Tata Elxsi has been working on the autonomous technology. In 2014 a group of engineers modified a Tata Zest and tested it on a predetermined route. In 2015 the firm demonstrated the autonomous valet parking technology.
Several automakers have stated that it is difficult to ply autonomous cars on the Indian roads because of the different traffic situations in the country. But finally, Tata Elxsi is moving a step ahead in this regard.
