Suzuki Expects India To Be Third-Biggest Car Market In The World By 2020
"India is expected to grow into the third-biggest car market in the world by 2020, and we are determined to play a big part in that growth."
Suzuki Motor Corporation is expecting India to grow into the world's third-largest car market by 2020. The Indian subsidiary of the manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, is determined to play a big part in that growth. Currently, India is the sixth largest car market behind China, USA, Japan, Germany and South Korea.
"India is expected to grow into the third-biggest car market in the world by 2020, and we are determined to play a big part in that growth," said Kinji Saito, Executive General Manager and Managing Officer (Global Automotive Operations), Suzuki Motor Corporation, at the Geneva Motor Show.
Maruti Suzuki commands nearly 50 percent of the passenger vehicle in the country, and it has already started operations at its new plant in Gujarat to raise the production to 20 lakh units by 2020.
Maruti Alto is the bestselling car in the country while Dzire, Swift, WagonR, Vitara Brezza and Baleno also joins in the top seller table. The manufacturer also plans to build 7.5 lakh units annually from its Gujarat plant once the operation starts in full swing.
Maruti's two production facility at Gurugram and Manesar have a total production capacity of 1.5 million units annually. According to company's 2020 target, Maruti would bring in 15 models by 2020. For the next financial year, the company will introduce all-new third-generation Swift, new Dzire, and facelifted S-Cross crossover.
