Skoda Rapid Overtakes Hyundai Verna For The Fifth Month In A Row
Skoda has recorded the third position in the C-segment with the Rapid sedan and has beaten Hyundai Verna for five months in a row.
The competition in the C-segment (executive sedan) in India is fierce, and the top 3 position is challenged every time a new entrant is launched in this space.
Honda ruled the segment with its City sedan and has been a successful model for the Japanese carmaker. Recently, in particular, 2017, saw the City lose its spot to Maruti Ciaz with tightly fought battle between the two sedans.
However, the gap between the top 2 and the remaining position is wide, and this is where the Skoda Rapid, Hyundai Verna and the Volkswagen Vento battle for the third place. Skoda went back to its drawing board and launched the facelifted Rapid sedan with plenty of cosmetic changes and added features.
Since the launch of the Skoda Rapid facelift, the sales for the Czech sedan has been on the rise, and between January and May 2017, the Rapid has been third best-selling executive sedan in the Indian market.
The Skoda Rapid beat Hyundai Verna for the fifth month in a row. With the updated and facelifted Rapid, Skoda seems to have scored better than the Verna.
Hyundai is gearing up to launch the Verna facelift by the end of 2017, and this could turn the tide for the South Korean carmaker in the executive sedan segment.
Skoda recently updated the facelifted Rapid with premium features such as 16-inch alloy wheels, soft-touch boot release button and reversing camera.
Skoda offers the Rapid in both petrol and diesel models. The Rapid petrol is powered by a 1.6-litre engine churning out 104bhp and 153Nm of torque. The diesel motor is a 1.5-litre engine developing 108.5bhp and 250Nm of torque.
Both the petrol and diesel models of the Rapid come paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Skoda offers a 6-speed automatic on petrol and a 3-speed DSG gearbox on the top variants on the respective models.
The top trim of the Skoda Rapid also features Hill Hold Control (HHC) while Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is offered on the diesel automatic variant. Skoda offers dual airbags at the front and ABS as standard in all variants of the Rapid sedan.
