Skoda has commenced testing its new SUV, the Kodiaq on Indian roads. The new SUV is expected to be launched by this year's festive season.
The Skoda Kodiaq was spotted testing on Indian roads by Autocar India. The SUV was not wearing a camouflage livery which hints the launch is nearing. The model spotted testing was an all-wheel-drive variant.
The Kodiaq is based on the same platform as Superb. The new SUV will be company's first seven-seater SUV. It is expected that the Indian market will get both the petrol and diesel variants of the SUV.
The petrol variant of the Kodiaq is likely to be powered by a 2-litre engine producing 180bhp and 250Nm of torque. The diesel variant will also be equipped with a 2-litre motor, but will be offered in two power bands - 150bhp and 190bhp.
The transmission options on the new Kodiaq include a 6-speed manual gearbox and Skoda's 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. Apart from that, the top-of-the-range model will feature all-wheel-drive.
On the styling front, the India-spec Kodiaq is identical to its international sibling. Although, there is no image of the interior. The cabin might feature minor changes for the Indian market.
The Kodiaq is expected to be slotted above the Superb with a price tag of around Rs 27 lakh to Rs 32 lakh Ex-showroom in the Indian market. The Skoda's new SUV will rival the likes of Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner.
