Sebastian Vettel has won the 2017 Australian Grand Prix, the first race of Formula One 2017 season. Ferrari tasted its first victory after more than a year.
Pole position holder Lewis Hamilton lead the initial stages of the race. But Vettel clinched the lead when the Mercedes driver made an early pit stop. After that, Hamilton was stuck behind the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.
Vettel completed the race with just one pit stop and took the victory by almost ten seconds. In the final stages of the race Hamilton was under pressure as his teammate, Valtteri Bottas was closing on him. But Bottas had to settle for the third position.
Vettel's teammate Kimi Raikkonen finished in a safe fourth position ahead of Red Bull driver Max Verstappen. Second Red Bull car couldn't finish the race, as Daniel Ricciardo made delayed race start and then retired.
Williams driver Felipe Massa finished the race in the sixth position. But his teammate Lance Stroll retired due to suspected braking issue on his Williams.
Both Sahara Force India drivers managed to finish in point scoring places. Sergio Perez finished in seventh place ahead of Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz Jnr. Second Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat finished in ninth after a late pitstop.
McLaren Honda driver Fernando Alonso was in final point scoring position. But the car developed a problem, and Esteban Ocon clinched the tenth position.
