Renault Could Bring The Megane Sedan To India
Renault has discontinued the Fluence sedan in India, and the Megane could fit the portfolio in the French automaker's product lineup in the country.
The popular trend in the global, as well as the Indian market, is SUVs, be it crossovers, compact SUVs or even the full-size SUVs.
However, there is still demand or preference for sedans over SUVs, and Renault is interested in this space. The French company recently discontinued the Fluence sedan in India owing to lower demand, although the sedan is an excellent vehicle.
With the Fluence discontinued from Renault's portfolio, the company is looking to fill the gap. Renault is evaluating if they can slot the Megane sedan in this segment in India.
Renault Megane sedan is based on its hatchback version and was developed alongside it, and does not reflect as an afterthought by the carmaker. With dimensions of 4.63m in length, the Megane can compete with the likes of Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra and the Toyota Corolla Altis in India.
Renault in its annual report had said that their strategy of introducing new products in the subcontinent had worked well. And that indicates the Megane could be brought to the country.
Power to the Renault Megane comes from a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit that produces 115bhp and a 1.2-litre turbo petrol that develops 130bhp of power. There is also the 1.5-litre dCI engine in two states of tune, 90bhp and 110bhp, which is available in the Duster in India.
Renault next launch in India is the Kaptur compact SUV and could bring the Symbol to replace the Scala. With the Megane sedan, Renault could have a solid product lineup in India.
DriveSpark Thinks!
Renault Megane is stylish, and with the company's robust dealership network, the sedan could fit the bill in India. Renault should consider launching the Megane in India despite SUVs leading the sales in the Indian auto industry.
