India-Bound Renault Captur (Kaptur) Crash Test Rating By Latin NCAP Revealed
The Renault Captur (Kaptur) received a 4-star rating in its latest crash test ratings by Latin NCAP.
The India-bound Renault Captur (Kaptur) crossover scored 4-star rating for adult protection and a 3-star rating for child occupant protection conducted by Latin NCAP recently.
The new Captur received a score of 30.27 (out of possible 34) in the protection of the adult occupant. And the crossover scored 33.68 (out of possible 49) in the child occupant protection. The Captur version tested features standard four airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX and seat belt with pretensioners.
As per the crash test agency, the Captur offered good protection to the head and neck of the driver and his co-passenger. While good protection was received for the passenger's chest, the driver's chest received 'marginal' protection.
The Renault Captur for India is going through extensive testing and has been spotted on several occasions. For emerging markets, the Captur will be positioned as a premium offering and will slot above the Renault Duster.
To keep cost down and at the same time keep its appeal, Renault will underpin the Kaptur with Duster's platform but has styled and designed based on Renault's existing small crossover, the Captur giving the new crossover a similar-sounding name.
Renault is expected to launch the Kaptur by the end of 2017, and the crossover is likely to get some aspects of the Brazil-spec model.
The engine specifications for the Kaptur will be a slightly powerful 1.5-litre diesel mated to either a 5- or 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed Easy-R automatic gearbox.
Prices for the Renault Kaptur is expected to be in the range of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 16 lakh ex-showroom. The Kaptur will compete with the likes of Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Hexa.
