Supercars Beware — World's Fastest Hybrid Sedan Revealed
Porsche's new top-spec Panamera is a hybrid with enough power to trouble supercars.
Porsche has revealed its new and rather unusual range-topper for the four-door Panamera super sedan. The Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is the first hybrid to serve as the ultimate model of any Porsche car till date unless you count the limited run 918 Spyder.
Powering the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 and an electric motor that together crank out 671bhp and 850Nm of torque to propel all four wheels with the help of an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid sprints from 0-100km/h in just 3.4 seconds and will hit 200km/h in 8.3 seconds. The new Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid tops out at 311km/h which Porsche claims make it the fastest hybrid sedan in the world.
The Panamera offers four driving modes with its new range-topping variant: electric, hybrid, sport plus and boost, which provides a temporary power surge.
Also present is a 48V electrical system which powers the electric anti-roll bars, four-wheel steering (an optional extra), and torque vectoring, along with carbon ceramic brakes, air suspension, traction and launch control systems.
The battery powering the entire electrical systems needs six hours to charge from a 10amp socket. That time is cut to 2.4 hours if the optional 7.2kW charger is used with a 30amp socket.
The Panamera S E-Hybrid will go on sale in Europe in the summer of 2017 and will make its world debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
