Porsche Considering Electric Macan SUV — Hybrid 911 Also On The Cards
Porsche sales chief Detlev von Platen could envision an all-electric version of the brand's top-selling Macan.
Porsche may offer an all-electric version of its Macan compact SUV and could transform models such as the iconic 911 into hybrids amid a push by parent company Volkswagen Group to move on from 'dieselgate scandal'.
Porsche has already been working on its Mission E project, the brand's first battery-only model, for some time, which will see an electric car competent of being charged to 80 percent in 15 minutes go into production by 2020.
Volkswagen, which is Europe's largest carmaker, intends to launch more than 30 new all-electric vehicles by 2025 in a strategic shift following its emissions test rigging scandal and has supported Porsche to build another all-electric car.
Von Platen, Porsche Sales Chief said, he could well imagine Porsche that will offer hybrid versions of its 911 and Boxster/ Cayman sports cars, with a blend of petrol engines and electric motors.
In 2015, Porsche displayed its 598bhp Mission E concept car in Frankfurt, which is competent of sprinting from 0-100kmph in 3.5 seconds.
That's quicker than the 911 (4.2 seconds) and is a remarkable stat considering the car also comes with a range of 500km on a single charge.
For now, there's nothing is concrete details about a hybrid Porsche 911 or electric Macan, but the company certainly looks as though it could become a big Tesla rival shortly.
While Porsche offers its electric vehicles, the company continues to vow auto enthusiasts with the luxury sports cars. The company recently unveiled the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, below is an extensive photo gallery, click to view.
