Nissan Plotting Nismo Expansion With Ambitious Performance Car Push
Nissan is plotting an ambitious expansion of its Nismo lineup with more vehicles which will target new markets.
Japanese carmaker Nissan has revealed plans for a fresh push into the performance car division with its Nismo range, which is set to greatly expand in the coming years with new models targeted at new markets.
Nismo currently produces 15,000 cars annually, and while well known in Japan, Nissan's performance brand isn't that well known a name as its rivals from Germany.
Nissan plans to change this by expanding into new markets with new models with the help of the newly created Nismo Cars Business Department.
Nismo currently produces tuned versions of the GT-R and 370Z sports cars, the Sentra sedan, the Nissan Note mini-MPV, and the Juke and Patrol SUVs. Nismo-tuned cars are sold in Japan, the Middle East, Europe, and North America.
The easiest option for Nissan to expand the Nismo lineup would be hot hatchbacks as the brand had previewed a quick Pulsar Nismo concept for Europe a few years back.
Nismo chief Takao Katagiri said, "As a Nissan sub-brand, NISMO further builds upon the core values of Nissan cars. With the combined expertise of Nissan group companies, NISMO road cars will make customers enjoy Nissan cars more than ever."
