Nissan Starts On-Road Autonomous Vehicle Testing — The Future Is Here
"Innovation and ingenuity are at the heart of the Nissan brand and its people.”
Japanese automaker Nissan conducted on-road testing of autonomous vehicles with a demonstration on roads east of London. The manufacturer has already done on-road self-driving demonstrations in North America and Japan before the London drive.
Takao Asami, senior vice president, Research and Advanced Engineering at Nissan, said, "Innovation and ingenuity are at the heart of the Nissan brand and its people. This test of Nissan's forthcoming autonomous drive technology in the demanding conditions of London streets underlines our commitment to delivering Nissan Intelligent Mobility to our customers."
The manufacturer has previously announced that updated Qashqai SUV and Leaf electric hatchback will be enabled for single lane autonomous driving on freeways using its ProPILOT technology. This technology will get introduced in Japan and North America soon.
It is expected that in 2018, Nissan will launch a multi-lane version of the technology for urban roads and intersections. Also, the Renault-Nissan Alliance has confirmed a partnership with Transdev to develop self-driving vehicles.
Ogi Redzic, the Renault-Nissan connected vehicle Boss, said, "Partnering with Transdev allows us to share our knowledge as leaders in electric vehicles, autonomous drive and connected car technologies with one of the largest multi-modal mobility operators worldwide."
"Together we will develop an advanced driverless mobility system that will enhance existing public and on-demand transport systems."
