The Nissan Signal Shield Goes Old School To Solve 21st Century Problem
The Nissan Signal Shield Concept is looking to help curb phone use while driving by looking to the past for inspiration.
Japanese carmaker Nissan has revealed the Signal Shield Concept, which aims to curb phone usage by drivers on the road.
To try and get around the 21st-century problem of people using their phones when behind the wheel, Nissan turned to a machine from the 19th-century to provide a solution. The result is the Nissan Juke Signal Shield.
Nissan has fitted a prototype compartment which sits inside the centre armrest of the Juke crossover. Essentially a Faraday Cage, the Signal Shield blocks all incoming and outgoing cellular, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi connections ensuring there are no distractions while driving.
However, if drivers still want to connect their phones to the car's infotainment system and listen to their tunes on the go, they can still connect via the USB or AUX ports as the Faraday cage only blocks wireless signals.
