Nissan Set To Launch ProPilot Assist Technology In The U.S
Nissan is all set to introduce the ProPilot Assist technology in the U.S later this year.
Japanese automaker Nissan is already demonstrating its ProPilot Assist technology to the world. The new technology is all set to be launched in the U.S later this year.
Nissan states that the ProPilot assist technology is specifically tuned for the U.S roads and drivers. The company has tested the assist system for more than 80,000kms across the United States.
The ProPilot assist system combines the Steering Assist and Intelligent Cruise Control to be used in both heavy and flowing traffic conditions. Nissan calls it as a hands-on system instead of self-driving, because the driver's hands should be on the steering wheel at all times.
Nissan's ProPiilot assist system will give priority to the driver's inputs. The Steering Assist feature will be disabled if the windshield wipers are on. But if the lane lines are detected, the system can be active even if the wipers are on.
Senior VP, Research and Development at Nissan, Takeshi Yamaguchi said, "ProPilot Assist has the ability to track curving lanes, helping the driver stay centered in the lane as well as adjusting for various traffic flow conditions."

He added, "However, just as non-autonomous vehicles today, ProPilot Assist requires the driver to remain engaged in the task of driving at all times - though the technology can reduce driver fatigue and increase driving enjoyment."

The ProPilot Assist system is an extended version of the Intelligent Cruise Control. It provides steering assistance when the front camera detects the lane markers. It is not a self-driving technology, and the driver needs to be alert at all times.
